Hello, I’m Jack, a graphic design student at Edinburgh Napier University. Over the course of two weeks, I was given a placement opportunity alongside Round Brand Communication, gaining invaluable knowledge and first-hand experience in the inner workings of a design agency in the professional world.
During my placement, I worked closely with members of the Round team to conceptualise and create various social media posts for their attendance at the Bread and Jam festival. Over this time, I came to understand Round’s identity intimately, which proved pivotal in selling them as the bold and innovative design agency that they are.
As someone with a keen interest in motion graphics, having the opportunity to create live, functional pieces of animated graphic design was very exciting. Knowing that these will be utilised by a noteworthy company helped in spurring me on to create content of high quality, as not only will they be representative of Round as an organisation, but also myself as a graphic designer in a professional context.
The team I worked with (Danny, Amy, Beth and Grant) were extremely welcoming, giving me as much guidance as I needed to go about this project, all the while allowing me to be incredibly free with how I wanted to approach and direct my work. As a team, they work seamlessly together, and I felt incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to be a part of such a refined and streamlined working ecosystem.
Although only a two-week placement, I feel I have managed to create a strong collection of work that represents Round’s brand in an engaging and entertaining manner, and of which I hope the team at Round are happy. I would like to thank those with which I worked for the opportunity, and in particular Danny, for bringing me on and leading me through my time here.
